| Market Rally Ahead? The #1 Reason I Am Still “All In” on Stocks Posted: 25 Jul 2019 03:30 PM PDT Hits: 7 I don't do this very often, but what we have in front of us is so important that I feel it is absolutely necessary.  Source: Shutterstock I want to repeat what I wrote about last week: I am "all in" on stocks right now, and given the data I came across, you should be, too. I can't overstate the importance of this right now — as market and economic conditions are converging in a way that has pushed stocks higher the last 17 times this has happened. Every week, I sift through hundreds (if not thousands) of charts and data points as part of my investment analysis. Like many people, I feel most of the information I come across is forgettable. While it might be interesting or notable, it's ultimately not important. And then, you have unforgettable data. You have REALLY important information. That's the kind of information I want to make sure you know about. It's the #1 reason I'm all in on stocks. It's the #1 reason I believe we're in for a major market rally over the next 12 months … one that could set you up to multiply your money many times over. In fact, this data caught my eye so strongly that I sent it to my CEO, Brian Hunt, in the middle of the night. The next day, Brian told me at lunch that he moved $368,000 into the stock market right after seeing the chart I sent. Naturally, I laughed and assumed he was joking. But, he wasn't. This is a guy who has lived and breathed the stock market for the last 20 years. This is not some amateur investor who is new to the game. Brian is also a deliberate guy who typically doesn't make major financial decisions at the drop of a hat. But after seeing what I have to show you, that's just what he did. But then again, I should not be surprised because I also have been busy buying stocks since that chart popped up on my screen. This "super bullish" information comes to us from financial advisor LPL Financial. It's a study that shows what happens after the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates when the stock market is near all-time highs. It has happened 17 times since 1980. This, by the way, is the situation we're likely to be in soon. Very soon. The Fed meets again next week and will announce its decision one week from today, on July 31 (which also happens to be the day of my free 10X Innovation Summit). Low interest rates stimulate the economy and the stock market. Low interest rates make people happy. President Donald Trump wants people so happy that he wins the 2020 presidential election. Trump knows finance … and he knows low interest rates will boost the economy and stocks. I believe he'll get his rate cuts … and he'll give the economy a shot of adrenaline. As I mentioned, the Fed has cut interest rates with stocks near all-time highs 17 times since 1980. Here's why I'm so passionate about getting this information in front of you: In all 17 instances, the S&P 500 was higher one year later. Even more impressive, stocks gained an average of 15% in the year following the rate cut. Here's the breakdown of annual returns:
Much of the time, making an investment decision is difficult and complicated. This isn't one of them. It's very simple. Trump knows lower rates will boost the market. He knows a strong market will help him get re-elected. Trump wants to get re-elected. He'll get low interest rates. If you are not yet convinced that you need to be in stocks after seeing the chart above, here is another … Research firm Fundstrat looked at instances when the Fed cut interest rates during an expansionary period for the U.S. economy, going back to 1971. Every single time, the market was higher three, six, nine, and 12 months later. And the returns were impressive:
One year later, the average gain was 16.5%. A 16.5% return from today would push the S&P 500 above 3,500. For context, the average 12-month return for the S&P over the last 50 years is about 8%. So, in this particular situation of a rate cut near market highs, we see nearly twice the average returns. Right now, the S&P 500 is sitting near an all-time high — and the rate cut is highly likely to happen soon. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the probability of a 25 basis point rate cut by mid-September is 95.6%. Both Citigroup and JPMorgan are predicting a 25 basis point rate cut next week — and Morgan Stanley and UBS are going even further. They expect a rate cut of 50 basis points next Wednesday. Now, while a one-year gain of 16.5% is impressive for the S&P 500, keep in mind that it's a broad index. Broad indexes by nature contain lots of average and weak companies. I believe high-quality growth stocks in the midst of emerging mega-trends will do much better than the broad market. These emerging mega-trends include the 5G infrastructure buildout, self-driving vehicles, advanced batteries, the Internet of Things, gene therapy, and cannabis. These hyper-growth mega-trends are set to create stock market winners that gain many times more than the broad market. But mark my words: Stocks are in a bull market. Low interest rates will act as an accelerant on that bull market. If you're not yet long stocks, get long soon. If you're already long stocks, get longer. Looking for longer-term forecasts on the US Dollar? Check out the DailyFX Trading Guides. Weeks of turmoil on the US-China trade war front have provoked significant volatility in Fed interest rate cut odds, and in turn, the US Dollar (via the DXY Index). But with US economic data improving in recent weeks – the Citi Economic Surprise Index for the US has improved to -40.6, its highest level since the first week of June – calls for aggressive dovish policy action have been quieted. Fed Funds Pricing for Three Rate Cuts in 2019Prior to the blackout window ahead of the July Fed meeting, FOMC officials laid clear their intentions to lower the main interest rate by 25-bps, and took significant pains to tamp down speculation that 50-bps of cuts would be delivered. The ensuing reaction in Fed rate cut odds pricing is proving to be the fuel the US Dollar needs to find follow through on its break of the downtrend from the May highs. With less than a week until the July Fed meeting, Fed funds futures are pricing in a 100% chance of a 25-bps rate cut and an 18% chance of a 50-bps rate cut in July. Federal Reserve Interest Rate Expectations (July 25, 2019) (Table 1)Rate cut odds remain frontloaded nevertheless. Assuming the Fed embarks on a 25-bps rate cut at the July Fed meeting, Fed funds futures are discounting a 73% chance of another 25-bps rate cut in September and a 57% chance of a third and final 25-bps rate cut in December 2019. Collectively, Fed rate cut odds have receded relative to where they were last week. Eurodollar Contract Spreads are Not as Dovish as Fed FundsCuriously, Eurodollar contracts are much less aggressive in their dovish pricing around the start of the Fed rate cut cycle. We can measure whether a rate cut is being priced-in by examining the difference in borrowing costs for commercial banks over a specific time horizon in the future. The chart below showcases the difference in borrowing costs – the spreads – for the June 19/December 19 (blue), August 19/December 19 (orange), & August 19/June 20 (red) periods in order to gauge where interest rates are headed by the end of December 2019 and the end of June 2020, respectively. Eurodollar Contract Spreads – June 19/December 19, August 19/December 19, & August 19/June 20: Daily Timeframe (July 2018 to July 2019) (Chart 1)
Based on the Eurodollar contract spreads, a 25-bps rate cut is fully discounted at the July Fed meeting. However, there are only 15-bps priced-out thereafter through the end of 2019, or a 60% chance of a second 25-bps rate cut by December. Meanwhile, Eurodollar contract spreads suggesting a 95% chance of three 25-bps rate cuts coming by June 2020. Fed Rate Cut Odds are Frontloaded Due to US-China Trade WarTraders should understand the distinctive way interest rate markets are currently discounting Fed rate cuts: there is a fairly meaningful discrepancy. Fed funds are much more aggressive than Eurodollar contracts in their dovish pricing for the Fed rate cut cycle. Such dissonance typically yields volatility; the July Fed meeting should produce a particularly pronounced market reactions across asset classes. Moreover, it's worth repeating an observation from several weeks ago. Markets feel that if Fed rate cuts are coming, they're going to come over the next several months, a direct response to the growing threat of the US-China trade war. It thus stands to reason that if a US-China trade deal materializes at any point in time, there will be a violent repricing of Fed rate cut odds. DXY INDEX TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: DAILY PRICE CHART (NOVEMBER 2017 TO JULY 2019) (CHART 2)
As Fed rate cut odds have dropped, the US Dollar (via the DXY Index) has been able to find follow through on the breakout above downward sloping channel in place since May. Bullish momentum appears to be building, with price holding above the daily 8-, 13-, and 21-EMA envelope. Meanwhile, daily MACD is attempting to extend its advance above the signal line in bullish territory, while Slow Stochastics extend their advance into overbought territory – typically the sign of a strong market. Considering the bullish outside engulfing bar, the US Dollar's near-term bias has turned more bullish.A return back towards two-month resistance near 98.33 should not be ruled out, particularly if Fed rate cut odds continue to recede. ***But what's going to lead to this growth after such big gains already from select marijuana companies? In short, we haven't seen the tidal wave of wealth that will pour into the sector after we see some sort of national legalization here in the U.S. You see, full legalization would remove legal roadblocks, enabling huge institutions, pensions, and funds to invest in the marijuana space. That would open the floodgates for a new wave (and a far bigger one) of investment dollars. Investors that get there first will benefit from that rising tide. So, where are we with legalization? Matt has recently pointed toward the progress being made on both the SAFE Banking Act and the STATES Act. Regular Digest readers recognize both of these bills since we've written about them numerous times in past issues. And we'll continue to update you as advancements come from Congress and the Senate, so I won't dig into additional details on them right now. But here's Matt for the broad takeaway:
Next, we have the 2020 presidential election. If you've been watching the Democrats vie for nomination, you've probably noticed something — nearly every Democratic candidate has called for legalization of even recreational marijuana, as well as for the expungement of federal charges related to cannabis. This means if the Democrats take the White House, odds favor a marijuana-friendly president who will be quick to sign reform legislation. And if Trump remains in office? Here's Matt for his take:
Matt goes on to discuss Trump's desire for another term and what a tight race it will be. Back to Matt:
Beyond that, we have pressure on the DEA to remove marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug. Then there's pressure on the FDA to establish guidelines for the sale of cannabidiol (CBD). And there's pressure on states to push for reform due to the huge volume of tax revenues they can generate through legal marijuana sales — which they don't want to see going to neighboring states that might have legalized. As more states pass reform legislation, it puts increasing pressure on the federal government to legalize too, given the awkward inconsistency. When we look at all of this together, it points toward a simple takeaway: huge gains are still in store for marijuana investors. Yet since this is just an overview of the space, I'll stop there. But here's Matt for the long-term takeaway:
***Marijuana is just one of several trends that Matt believes will produce 10X winners Let's briefly touch on three others that Matt is incredibly bullish on today. Precision Medicine: America's health care system currently lacks the ability to treat us as unique individuals — with different genetic makeups, varying diets, and different environmental exposures (think of the ecological variability throughout the U.S.). Given that, doctors frequently resort to treating patients with "one size fits all" procedures and medicines. Here's Matt, for how this is going to change:

The Internet of Things: The Internet of Things is the name we've given to the coming (and partially here) world of connected machines and their support systems. This means everything from cars, to homes, refrigerators, heating systems, lighting systems, medical devices, industrial machines, oil rigs, construction equipment, elevators, ships, etc. All of these things will use advanced technology to self-monitor, monitor their surroundings, and communicate with humans and other machines via the internet. According to Matt, Cisco reports 500 billion devices will be connected to the Internet of Things by 2030. This will drive IoT-related spending to grow 55% and pass $1 trillion by 2022. One aspect of the IoT that Matt is focusing on in particular is "predictive maintenance." Instead of humans monitoring machines and fixing them when they break, predictive maintence will spot — and fix — those problems before anything breaks down. Here's Matt on the impact of this technology:
Artificial Intelligence: By now, most people know the basics of artificial intelligence. In a nutshell, "AI" is extremely sophisticated software running on extremely sophisticated computers. This combination is becoming so powerful that computers are starting to "think" for themselves. The implications are incredible … and economically, they run into the trillions of dollars. From Matt:

Analysts saw Mattel bringing in revenue of $813 million in the consensus guidance, according to a survey carried out by Refinitiv. On the earnings side of things, the business tallied up a net loss of $108 million, or 31 cents per share, about 55.2% narrower than the loss of $241 million, or 70 cents per share, from the second quarter of 2018. On an adjusted basis when considering one-time items, the company lost 25 cents per share, about 15 cents narrower than the Wall Street loss guidance of 40 cents per share. "This quarter further demonstrates the continued momentum of our multi-year turnaround strategy," Ynon Kreiz, chairman and CEO of Mattel said in a statement. The toy brand has been seeking to revitalize its business since the closure of Toys R Us. Speaking of the former industry juggernaut, Toys R Us is opening its doors once again later this year with a revamped look and, hopefully, feel.
