I literally circled the globe. Here's the #1 trend I found.

Fellow Fools,

I just got back from the investing trip of a lifetime: A complete circle around the world covering five continents.

My purpose was to visit several great companies in order to report back to you some of the very best investing ideas out there. And I think I've got a good one, which I'll reveal in a moment.

Here's the top thing I discovered, and it's something I'll bet most Americans are hardly aware of:

From Europe to Asia to Australia to most anywhere... cash is dying. In fact, I traveled the entire time with no cash in my pocket! Even credit cards are diminishing, as most of my payments were made with my phone.

In China, it's not uncommon for people to head out in the morning and leave their wallets behind. They go about their day with no credit cards, no debit cards, and NO cash.

When major trends shift like this, I always look for how I can benefit as an investor. (And of course, share that knowledge!) That's why I'm keenly tuned into this technology that became wildly apparent to me on my long journey.

The problem is, it's starting to get noticed now in the U.S. And because I think earlier investors in big trends have a better chance for the big gains that can make a lifetime of difference... I feel a sense of urgency.

How much longer do you think this technology stays under the radar with this kind of coverage?

  • The New York Times calls it "a gold mine of staggering proportions."
  • Research firm IDC told the Times: "Literally every business and brand in China is plugged into this ecosystem."
  • BI Intelligence estimates global growth from $75 billion to $500 billion in 2020 — a roughly 88% compound annual growth rate.

I believe this has set up a great opportunity for four outstanding companies whose stocks have been personally recommended by David and Tom Gardner.

David and Tom co-founded The Motley Fool 25 years ago and are well-known for investing ahead of the wave when new technologies like this appear on the horizon.

For example, here are actual returns for stocks they picked ahead of these trends:

Internet commerce: Amazon UP 13,224%

Video streaming: Netflix UP 15,746%

Digital entertainment: Marvel (now Walt Disney) UP 7,724%

Online travel services: Priceline (now Bookings Holdings) UP 8,079%

Gaming: Activision Blizzard UP 1,775%

Of course, not every pick is going to be a winner (and anyone who tells you different is lying), but David and Tom's overall track record is the envy of Wall Street.

Now, because of this exciting new technology coming out of China...

... and because of David and Tom's enviable track record of investing in tech stocks...

... We felt this was a great time to put together their recommendations in an easy-to-understand investor's guide called "Leave Your Wallet at Home: 4 Stocks for the Digital Payments Revolution."
