Good afternoon- Welcome October, September was a month to forget for investors of tech stocks. It seems that ever since investors got back from the Labor Day holiday, they’ve been in a selling mood. The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEARCA:XLK) is down 10% for the month. But some individual stocks are faring far worse. It’s tough to say what’s going on. Many tech stocks are agnostic to what’s going on with the virus. And for investors looking for gains, there are few sectors that are a better buy. Could it be the market’s way of saying things are overbought? Maybe, but I tend to believe it’s just some profit-taking. Investors are right-sizing their portfolios as we head into what should be an interesting last quarter of the year. You might be wondering if you should get into tech stocks, or if you should increase your position. I’m not an advocate of market timing. Tech stocks may have further to drop. Traders can be fickle. But four words you should remember are this too shall pass. Tech stocks were obvious targets for some profit-taking. And at the end of the day, that’s what I believe the latest tech selloff amounts to. Stocks don’t move in one direction all the time. It was time for the sector to get a haircut. This isn’t to say we’re in for smooth sailing. The Federal Reserve is promising low-interest rates at least through 2023. But Fed announcements are sugar highs for the market. They fade quickly and then the horror of what they actually said kicks in. The novel coronavirus isn’t going away quickly. And the market is realizing (as if they didn’t already know) that vaccines can’t be created by executive fiat. Oh, and we have an election. And not only an election, but an election that is likely to be contested in a way that will make us long for the words “hanging chads.” But there are always gains to be found, particularly now that stock prices have come down a little bit. Here are seven tech stocks that you can look to add or increase a position in now that they’re trading at a discount.
