I know this because I didn't really know how to navigate the stock market the first time around. I've learned many things since then but one of the things I wish I knew about were the 11 sectors of stocks. So, over the next few weeks, we will briefly discuss those. | What are Stock Sectors? | Stock sectors are groups of stocks that have a lot in common with each other. This is usually because they are in similar industries. There are 11 different stock market sectors, which are categorized to make it easier to compare companies that have similar business models. When you invest, you can choose stocks within the sectors that interest you. Having these sectors also makes it easy to research different industries so that you can make more informed investing decisions. | Energy | This sector covers companies that do business in the oil and natural gas industry. Companies in this sector include oil production companies, as well as gas exploration companies. It also includes products of other consumable fuels, like coal and ethanol. The energy sector also includes businesses that provide equipment, materials, and services to oil and gas producers. However, the energy sector does NOT include renewable energy companies, which are considered to be utilities. | Stocks in the energy sector include ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX). | Materials | This sector includes companies that provide various goods for use in manufacturing. Companies in this sector make things like chemicals, construction materials, containers or other packaging, etc. Companies that produce forest products, metals, and minerals are also included in the materials sector. You may also notice companies that produce paper products as well as mining companies and steel companies in this sector. | Material stocks include companies like Sherwin-Williams (SHW) and DuPont (DD). | Keep a lookout for our emails over the next couple of weeks as we explore the other nine sectors of the stock market. | | | | | | Tips4Traders | For more awesome tips, news and information, visit our site...Register now | | | | | |
