What I found really interesting about this article wasn’t the numbers, though. It was the mindset they talked about.
Essentially, they explained that older generations, Boomers especially, had a different vision of what made one wealthy, or what “the American Dream” really is.
They believed that the ability to work hard, save your money, and start living your life the way you want to in your later years was where it’s at.
But Gen Y, and Gen Z, they are more about “living for today.” Remember when “YOLO” was all the rage?
Younger generations want experiences, and they want the freedom to pursue those experiences now.
Here’s what I think: why does it have to be one or the other?
Why can’t you live a lifestyle where you can make great experiences now, and also still save for the future and live the life you want to live?
I do think it’s possible, even if it’s tough.
Nobody said living our dreams wouldn’t take hard work. Are you willing to do what it takes?
