I may be dating myself here, but one of my favorite Saturday Night Live sketches is the one where Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken re-imagine the studio recording of the classic rock song, "(Don't Fear) the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.
Walken plays an off-kilter, but demanding music exec, while Ferrell portrays a band member. As Ferrell bangs away at the cowbell louder and louder, Walken's character has the band replay the song over and over, as he gets increasingly agitated, screaming the now iconic lines…
"I need more cowbell! I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!"
21 years and 17 million YouTube views later, it's still one of SNL's most popular sketches. And chances are high, if you tell the average American on the street that you "need more cowbell," they'll get the reference immediately.
This weird, but hilarious sketch is proof that no matter how obscure something may be initially, positive results will endure the test of time.
Much like my Precision Volume Alerts service, you can't argue with results.
