Vehicle manufacturer CATL purchased about 25% of the Kisanfu copper-cobalt mine, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. CATL paid $137.5 million under the deal, aimed at ensuring supply of battery metals to its Chinese operations. ➤ Leftists on track to take power in the world's second-largest copper nation. The Free Peru party won first-round elections, on a platform to grab more state control of mining projects. Peru is the world’s number-two producer of mined copper, after Chile. ➤ …while the world's second-largest nickel nation opened up. The Philippines – the number-two producer of the battery metal after Indonesia – allowed new mining applications for the first time in nine years. The move marks a major shift for President Rodrigo Duterte, who previously opposed mining. ➤ Your future UPS parcel could come by electric helicopter. The company bought 10 of the recently developed ALIA-250 aircraft to deliver parcels. UPS plans to use them for delivery to remote parts of the country as soon as 2024. ➤ Gold "tattoos" might be a medical breakthrough. German researchers successfully tested a method for implanting gold nanoparticles underneath the skin to monitor blood chemistry.
