Indian Women Are The Key!
Hello Trader, Few people know that Indian weddings are half of the global demand for gold! Not central banks, not investors, not industry. Indian women. The Indian wedding season is in the fall each year. The tradition is that Indian brides are adorned with as much gold as can be afforded. For thousands of years, women were not allowed to own property or anything they couldn't carry on their body. So gold became the gift of choice for Indian brides. They could carry significant wealth using gold. That law is long gone but the tradition remains. Jewelry manufacturers order the raw gold in August and manufacture the jewelry in August and September to sell for the brides. So the demand for gold skyrockets every year in August. Last year, wedding season was extremely muted and most weddings were delayed until this year. That should turbo charge wedding season this year because of the large pent up demand. Don't forget, though, that some of the demand came from last year so that will take some of the demand off the table this year. So look for increased demand from Indians, net net. Covid ravaged India this year but cases have dropped 90% from just earlier this year so I think we will see weddings this year. But we need to monitor closely to make sure there will be one.
